The Ministry of Education (ME), in collaboration with the Government of South Korea through the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (KRIVET) and the EAS TVET Cooperation Network, is facilitating Artificial Intelligence (AI) training for 250 multimedia teachers. This initiative, reported by TATOLI, aims to enhance educators’ knowledge and capacity to integrate digital technology into the learning process, with plans to establish an AI and Digital Education Centre at four technical schools in Bekora.

This development is more than just a training program; it represents a clear strategic direction from the Timorese government towards embracing digital transformation and preparing its youth for the global digital economy. As the Secretary of State for General and Technical-Vocational Secondary Education, Domingos Lopes Lemos, noted following his visit to South Korea in September 2026, Timor-Leste must transition from being a spectator to an active participant in this global shift. For organisations operating in Timor-Leste, this commitment has several long-term implications.
